Arlington High School secretary sentenced in theft case
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors say a former bookkeeper at a Shelby County high school has been sentenced to 12 years in a diversion program after repaying more than $142,000 she stole from the school.
The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 49-year-old Toni Cox was sentenced Monday to supervision under the Community Corrections Program, which keeps certain non-violent felony offenders out of the state prison system.
Cox had pleaded guilty to theft of over $60,000 after auditors from the state comptroller’s office found that $142,307 was missing from Arlington High School’s funds between July 2008 and June 2010.
The auditors said Cox, a financial secretary, altered collection records from school organizations, activities and fees. She resigned in May 2010.
Cox could receive a prison term if she violates conditions of her sentence.
