Va. man sentenced in robbery scheme targeting drug dealers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A Virginia man will spend more than five years in prison for participating in a scheme to rob drug dealers in four states.

Twenty-four-year-old Brandon Davis of Wytheville, Virginia, pleaded guilty in October 2013 to conspiracy to commit armed robberies. Following several delays, he was sentenced on Tuesday in federal court in Charleston to five years and 10 months in prison.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says in a news release that Davis and several other people conspired to rob drug dealers in West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Goodwin says drug dealers were targeted because the group believed the victims likely wouldn’t call police.

Co-defendant Robert Barcliff recently was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Two other co-defendants, Darrell Gillespie and Jamaa Johnson, are scheduled to be sentenced in May.
