MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — On Monday, the Madison County Election Commission approved the five provisional ballots cast in last Tuesday’s Jackson Municipal Election. Provisional ballots are cast when voters don’t have the proper identification with them at the poll. They can then bring their ID to the election commission office to have their ballot counted. Monday morning, the five-person board also allowed mayoral candidate James Baxter and his campaign manager to address them about their request for a recount. “Last night, I called Ms. Godwyn and invited her to come down,” commission chairman Phil Bryant said. “Her and Mr. Baxter came in this morning. We allowed them ample time to speak and talk about their concerns with the election commission.” Bryant says the board will not OK a recount. He says they will meet again next week to certify the election results.
