BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Preparations for an organized overnight community fundraising walk to fight cancer are continuing in Haywood County. Organizers hosted a survivor’s luncheon Thursday. The lunch raised money for the Relay for Life event. Survivors and caretakers were honored, and some shared their stories of triumph over the disease. Coordinators say it all comes back to supporting the community. “We wanted to raise awareness and send money for cancer, but it also brings the community together to rally around a common cause,” Relay for Life co-chair Michael Banks said. This year’s Relay for Life will take place Friday night in the city of Brownsville starting at 5 p.m. at the Criminal Justice Complex.
