JACKSON, Tenn. – More than a thousand members of the United Methodist Church gather in Jackson to determine its leadership and direction for the next year. The 176th Memphis Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church kicked off at the Carl Perkins Civic Center Sunday afternoon with a worship service. Clergy and members of the church from West Tennessee and Western Kentucky will spend the next three days in Jackson electing new delegates to represent the region. “It’s a time to connect and to rework existing friendships and develop new friends, but it’s also a time to learn from one another and express and share best practices of ministry,” the Rev. Dr. Joe Geary told WBBJ Sunday. The conference runs through Wednesday afternoon.
