JACKSON, Tenn. — Extreme heat is wreaking havoc on West Tennessee, and some are even calling it the hottest it has ever been. “It’s the hottest one I’ve seen, and it’s going to be hotter, I think,” said 90-year-old Gertrude Jones. Jones lost air in her home earlier this week and was in desperate need of help. So the Jackson community stepped up to help her. City councilman Johnny Dodd said it took one Facebook post and help arrived. “It’s just very hot out here, and everyone needs to check on their neighbors and make sure they are OK because this lady had no air conditioning,” said Tim Ferguson, owner of Tim Ferguson Plumbing, Heating and Air. Ferguson’s business donated the air conditioner, something the Jones family says they’re extremely thankful for. “It’s nice of them to do that,” Larry Jones said. “I went down there and thanked them and told them how much I appreciate it because it was really hot in there for her.” “Tell you the truth, it made me cry,” Gertrude Jones said. “I cried when I saw them all helping out.”
