Dwyer Kendrick Mitchum
Services for Dwyer Kendrick Mitchum, 93, will be held Monday, March 16, 2020 at 4:00 pm in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with Brother Dennis Trull officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with U.S. Army Military Honors rendered. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm and Monday, March 16, 2020 from 3:00 pm until service time. Colonel Mitchum, retired from the U.S. Army, died Friday, March 13, 2020 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. He was born on February 23, 1927 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Charlie Lewis and Ethel Elizabeth Pate Mitchum. He was retired from the U.S. Army with over 27 years of service being a Veteran of WW II as a Medic with the U.S. Navy and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam war periods till retiring, he attended the McKenzie First Baptist Church, a member of the McKenzie Rotary Club, served on the McKenzie Planning Commission, was a graduate of University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and performed private contracting with the Pentagon after retiring from military duty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janie Carolyn Mitchum, the mother of his children Betty Marie Smith Edwards, his sister Peggy Mitchum Bacigalupo, and his great granddaughter Lila Ruth Griffin.
Survivors include a son Mark (Svjetlana Vojvodic) Mitchum of Texas, two daughters Carie Neal (Dan) Bradford of McKenzie, Lora Lee (Rick) Goforth of Covington, TN, his daughter in law Sherry Nelson Mitchum, eight grandchildren Julie Bradfield, Lisa (Ryan) Griffin, Blake (Amber) Goforth, Jana (Brian) Stafford, Mark (Christy) Goforth, Brooks Mitchum, Luke Mitchum, Witt Mitchum, nine great grandchildren Brayden Cooley, Lute McCaslin, Presley Goforth, Seth Stafford, Georgia Kate Goforth, George Goforth, Isaac Griffin, Briley Stafford, and Grady Goforth.
Pallbearers who will be serving are Blake Goforth, Mark Goforth, Brooks Mitchum, Luke Mitchum, Witt Mitchum, and Brian Stafford: Honorary pallbearers will be John David Barker, Tommy Putman, Bill Moore, Lute McCaslin, Brayden Cooley, and Seth Stafford.
