Fall in the Gardens Plant Sale and Lecture Series Scheduled for October 2 and 3
UT Gardens, Jackson, to Host Talks, Tours, Plant Sale and More

JACKSON, Tenn. – Home gardeners of all ages and skill levels are invited to one of the last horticultural events of the season. University of Tennessee Gardens, Jackson, is hosting its annual Fall in the Gardens plant sale and lecture series on October 2 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and October 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The first day of this free event will feature educational presentations on topics such as plant selection, landscape design and growing beautiful displays from seed, while hands-on demonstrations will showcase leaf pressing and leaf casting activities you can do at home. Attendees will also enjoy both walking tours of UT Gardens, Jackson, and wagon tours of the AgResearch Center, as well as local vendors and food trucks. Shoppers can browse hundreds of selections at the fall plant sale from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the second day of the event continuing with the plant sale only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“People often don’t realize that fall is the perfect time to plant trees and shrubs, as well as cool-season flowers such as pansies,” says Jason Reeves, curator of UT Gardens, Jackson. “This is our last major event of the year, and we are excited to go big with all-new activities, hours of shopping and one of our most prestigious presenters yet.”

This year’s guest speaker is Brie Arthur, world-renowned horticulturist, bestselling author and contributor to the Emmy-winning PBS television series “Growing a Greener World.” Arthur will host the presentations “Foodscape Fusion: Pioneering a New Gardening Era” at 12:30 p.m. and “Seeds of Enchantment: Unveiling the Art of Cottage Gardening” at 7 p.m. Reeves will speak in the morning at 10:30 a.m. on “Top Performing Plants” perfect for your garden.

Celeste Scott, UT Extension Western Region’s horticulture Extension specialist, says that Madison County Master Gardeners is excited to sponsor the guest speaker once again. “Brie Arthur is one of the most creative and inspiring voices in horticulture today, and we’re thrilled to bring her to Jackson. If you’ve ever wanted to hear her speak in person, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Best of all, it’s totally free!”
