Turning tassels, defining futures: Lane College celebrates the Class of 2026
PRESS RELEASE FROM LANE COLLEGE:
JACKSON, Tenn. — On Saturday, April 25, Lane College celebrated a defining moment as 109 students crossed the commencement stage and turned their tassels, marking both the culmination of their academic journeys and the beginning of new paths ahead. The ceremony served not only as a milestone for graduates, but as a powerful reminder to future Dragons of what is possible through dedication, resilience, and purpose.

The ceremony opened with a welcome provided by Bishop Marvin Frank Thomas, Sr., Chair of the Board of Trustees, followed by greetings from graduates and business majors: Erin Isabell, Student Government Association President; Lemanuel Turnipseed, Senior Class President; and Deroan Pinder, Highest-Ranking Graduate.
11th Lane College President, Dr. Donald W. Comer, shared personal reflections with the Class of 2026, thanking the graduates for helping him find his place at the institution as President. He reflected on their shared journey at the institution before shifting the focus to the graduates on their individual paths, responsibility to let their actions reflect excellence, and their charge to truly embody the College’s motto, Esse Non Videri — “To be, not to seem.”
Delivering the keynote address, Kimberly A. Blackwell, CEO and Founder of the nationally acclaimed PMM Agency, challenged graduates to embrace their individuality and pursue their calling with confidence. Her message emphasized how disruption can serve as redirection to your purpose revealing who you truly are. “When life disrupts your plans, let purpose–not panic, decide your response.”
Her words resonated deeply with both graduates and those who will one day follow in their footsteps, offering a blueprint for navigating life beyond Lane College with courage and conviction.
In recognition of her impact and professional achievements, Blackwell was awarded an honorary doctorate in Marketing and Communications, reinforcing the College’s commitment to excellence and leadership in the field. Following the honorary awarding, degrees were presented to the classes of 1976 and 1966 for their 50th and 60threunions, and continued with the awarding of diplomas to the Class of 2026.

As the Class of 2026 steps forward into new opportunities, their journey reflects the promise of Lane College: to prepare students not only to succeed, but to lead. For current and future students, commencement stands as a vision of what lies ahead. It is a moment where hard work meets purpose, and where every Dragon is called to rise, stand out, and make their mark.
