Man Stabbed in the Chest in East Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Wednesday morning in east Jackson. According to investigators, a JEA employee who was working across the street witnessed the stabbing and called 911. Residents said they have not had any issues in the neighborhood like this in a while. “It’s usually a quiet neighborhood,” said Curtis Williams, who lives in the area. Investigators said the man was stabbed near the 100 block on Phillips Street. Police said he was rushed to the hospital with critical stab wounds to his chest. “It’s a sad thing and we’re steady doing it to each other,” said Williams. Police said the 46-year-old man was found lying in an alley; and the umbrella he was carrying was still lying on the ground. Shortly after, the suspect was caught at a nearby intersection. With the suspect in custody, police said they are looking for a motive. “It’s not a question of who, but what led to the stabbing,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller, of the Jackson Police Department. The suspect has not yet been charged, but is being held for questioning.
