Strong winds blamed for towering tree falling on house
JACKSON, Tenn. — An east Jackson family got the scare of a lifetime after a towering tree came crashing down on top of their house, Tuesday evening.
The owner of the home, near Godwin Drive and Lincoln Street, said around 6:30 p.m., she and her daughter had just finished the dishes and she’d sat down on her couch. She said within minutes the tree fell, crashing through the roof and ceiling. She said a limb hit mere feet from her.
Officials said they believe strong winds toppled the near 90-foot tree.
The homeowner said she has insurance but is unsure of when an adjuster will be out. She said she will be unable to live in her house for a while. Family and the Red Cross are assisting her with housing and replacing some items that were destroyed.
