Holiday tree recycling returns to Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.—Residents in the Hub city say farewell to holiday trees.

The City of Jackson and Keep Jackson Beautiful held its annual Chipping of the Greens this morning.

Residents could drop off trees or schedule to have their trees picked up beginning Friday, January 12.

Trees could be dropped off at three locations in Jackson at North Park, Liberty Garden or the City of Jackson’s Fire Training Center. The only requirement for the trees was to be free of all décor and no artificial trees were allowed.

Trees were recycled into mulch beginning at 9:30 this morning at the fire training center’s south parking lot. The mulch was then available for residents to pick up for free, while supplies last.

“It’s a good time of year, with all this winter weather we have coming, to protect some of your plants if need be. It’s just a nice way to utilize things that would normally end up in a landfill,” said Danielle Wade, Coordinator at Keep Jackson Beautiful.

This event is a great opportunity for residents to not only get rid of their holiday trees but to give back to the community.
