Madison County Commissioners discuss, vote on resolution regarding raising commissioner’s pay

Madison County Commission Holds First Meeting Of 2024 7

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.–Madison County commissioners vote on a resolution that affects their pay.

At their monthly meeting Tuesday night, one item on the agenda for the commission was a resolution to raise their pay from $500 a month to $1,000  a month.

During the meeting, two amendments were proposed to alter the resolution. One to include full benefits except retirement in the resolution and another to propose a study before passing the resolution.

The amendment to include benefits was passed while the proposal of a study was not. However, the entire resolution failed to pass a majority vote.

“Well, I think some people are concerned because they feel like they’re voting for a raise for themselves but they’re not. They’re voting for the next set of commissioners. One of the reasons this was brought up is because we want to encourage younger people to get involved in the government,” said
Michael Taylor, chairman of the Madison County Commission.

Next month’s Madison County Commission meeting will be March 18.
