JACKSON, Tenn. – The mother of the man killed in the February shooting inside Karma Lounge is speaking out about new charges filed against the alleged shooter. Lecarlos Todd’s mother told 7 Eyewitness News she is pleased with the indictment, but it still does not bring back her son. It has been nearly seven months since Charlotte Todd lost her 19-year-old son, LeCarlos. She said it still hurts, but he did not die in vain. “Something good is going to come out of my son’s life,” Todd said. “If it’s nothing else but letting any other young people know to be very, very careful about your surroundings.” LeCarlos was killed at Karma Lounge in Jackson, after police said Travis Steed, 31, fired a gun into a group of people. On Tuesday, Steed was indicted on six counts including charges of first-degree murder and felony murder. Todd’s mother said the last time she spoke to her son was the same day of Lane College’s big basketball game against Lemoyne-Owen College. LeCarlos was killed just hours later. “He had an excitement about himself. I guess because of the game, and he and his friends were together,” Todd said. Todd said she and several family members rushed to Jackson when they heard LeCarlos had been shot. They could not believe he was dead. “I would never, ever want another parent to have to go through that or feel what I felt.” Todd said she is just glad Steed is off the streets. “Another child will not lose their life at his hands,” Todd said. “This is not his first run-in with the law, and had he been where he should’ve been in the first place, maybe my child would still be here.” But LeCarlos will still be with them in spirit. Todd told 7 Eyewitness News they felt victory with Steed’s indictment, but there is still pain. She said nothing can take it away, but time.
