Independence Day celebrations to attend across West Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn. — The West Tennessee region has a plethora of celebrations happening to kick off the Fourth of July holiday.

Everyone’s looking for the perfect Independence Holiday celebration to share the day in the best way. The Discovery Park of America in Union City has a full schedule of 10+ activities for many to take part in from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

“Happening throughout the day are scavenger hunts, blacksmith demonstrations, interacting and taking photos with living historians, demonstration of traditional skills and crafts in the settlement area. There’s just all sorts of stuff that’ll really feel like we’re stepping back in time on Thursday,” said Clare Saum, director of marketing and PR for Discovery Park of America.

Guests at the Discovery Park will even get to experience the Boston Tea Party reenactment and the opportunity to participate in the ‘Let Freedom Ring Liberty Bell’ ceremony they only do once a year.

And there’s more that one way to observe the holiday this year as the Firefighter Freedom Festival kicks off what they tell us is a highly anticipated firework show here in the Hub City.

“We’re blowing up about $15,000 dollars worth of fireworks– about a thirty minute show. It’s a beautiful show, our firefighters blow those fireworks up and you know firemen. They like to blow things up not only put out fires,” said Kim Turner, office administrator for Madison County Fire Department.

The Madison County Fire Department has grown to approximately 10,000 people that come out to support this festival.

Many other events happening include:

  • July 4 — Jackson Rockabillys home game fireworks
  • July 4 — Paris Landing State Park fireworks (8 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
  • July 6 — Fireworks on the Farm by the Taylors in Huntingdon (‘Evening’, 670 Chapel Hill Road)
