Back to school celebration held in the Hub City
JACKSON, Tenn.—School buses are about to hit the streets and one Hub City celebration makes sure the children have essential supplies before the start of the semester.
“I’m here at Jackson’s Amp at the Market for the community Back to School Bash 2024. So, essentially it’s a day full of live entertainment, vendors, food trucks, free school supplies and just a fun-filled day to soak up before the start of the school year,” said Marcus Perkins II, Youth Minister and event co-chair.
This Back to School Bash is hosted by Agape Christian Fellowship Church and their mission is to uplift the community through giving.
“Most of our back to school bashes, since the beginning of our church’s existence took place on campus. But, we felt the need to get out in the community a little bit more and kind of put boots on the ground because I felt like we could have a little bit more contact with the people. Not only within the neighborhood of the church, but throughout the entire city,” Perkins said.
They have a variety of sponsors that help them pull off this event and one of their generous contributors, Texas Roadhouse provided meal vouchers for the students included in their supplies.
“We’re expecting about 350 to 400 people to show up, students at least, kids. I mean, I know it will be more with family, but we do have about 400 bags of school supplies to give away and we want to give away every last one of them,” Perkins said.
For them, it’s about pouring back into the youth and families to set them up for success.
“We hope that people are blessed by the love of God because we do believe not only are we able to share the gospel by the way of in the church but sharing school supplies to help families get off to a better start for the beginning of the year. That’s truly the blessing of god so we’re just thankful for the opportunity to be a blessing to our community,” Perkins said.
The Agape Church family encourages everyone not to let this be the last time you connect and fellowship with them.
“We also would like to invite everybody to come out and worship with us weekly on Sunday mornings at 10 am. We’ll also have a Sunday Night of Glory service tomorrow night at 6 pm,” Perkins said.
Vendors present ranged from Shy’s Sweets, beverages by Loaded Juice, Chellisa’s Events food truck, apparel from Designs by D and Merriweather Co. LLC. and live music from the sounds of Clifton Smith and the Jackson Unity Assemble, Daniel McClain, Ryanna Campbell, and Rybron Joyner and Peculiar Worshippers.
You can attend their Sunday Night of Glory service tomorrow night at 6 pm located at 600 North Parkway in Jackson.
