Salvation Army encourages local participation in Red Kettle Campaign

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Salvation Army aims to make a difference in the Hub City.

The Salvation Army is recognized for ringing the bell around the holidays, and their annual Red Kettle Campaign gets businesses involved to help those in need.

They encourage establishments, organizations, and church groups of all surrounding eight counties to pick up a kettle and fill it up before November 14 as a challenge.

Volunteers say there’s not just a need for people around Christmas time, but the entire year.

“We try to break that cycle of poverty. A child who lives half his life in poverty is 32 time more likely to remain in poverty. We’re just not treating their symptoms of their need–at the point of their need, but we’re also trying to break that cycle as well,” said John Edmonds, commanding officer for the Salvation Army.

You can always register to ring the bell at a location near you starting in October this year.
