I want to speak directly to something that’s been a topic of conversation. Recently, rumors started circulating that undocumented immigrants were being dropped off at the old K-Mart parking lot. After a thorough investigation by the City of Jackson, TN – Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Tennessee, I want to reassure you that these claims are not true.
But beyond clearing up the facts, I want us to think about the real impact of this. Behind every rumor like this are real people – families who live, work, and contribute to our community. Many of them weren’t born here, but they’ve chosen Jackson as their home, just like any of us would want for our own families. They’ve built lives here, and when we spread fear or suspicion, we risk making them feel like they don’t belong in a place they love.
It’s important to remember that Jackson’s strength comes from its people – all of us. In fact, we’re about to celebrate something special: the 10th anniversary of the Jackson International Food and Arts Festival. This festival is a beautiful reminder of how our diversity makes us richer. When we come together to celebrate different cultures, stories, and traditions, we’re building a stronger, more united Jackson. Every person in this city brings something unique to the table, and that’s what makes our community so special.
Let’s choose to lead with kindness and understanding. We’re all part of the same Jackson family, and it’s up to us to make sure everyone feels like they truly belong.
