WINTER STORM WARNING Issued for all of West TN Friday (4-8″ Total)

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Snow showers will move in after 10pm and spread to the east overnight. All of West Tennessee will be seeing snow by 2am and it will be very heavy during the day on Friday. The snow will move out Friday evening but not before a widespread 4-8″ of snow will have come down in our area. The highest amounts and wettest snow will be along and south of I-40. There is a chance for a few hours or sleet or a wintry mix to develop south of Madison county in the early afternoon hours on Friday depending on how high the temperatures get in the middle of the day. Regardless if a little sleet or ice develops, most of what is going to be coming down in those areas is still going to be snow.

Temperatures will remain cold all week and weekend long and likely into next week as well here in West Tennessee. Please remember to leave your pipes dripping if you have had plumbing issues in the past. Please bring in your pets and do not leave them outside. Please bundle up in winter gear, hats and gloves and winter coats if you are heading out or sending the little ones out for any reason! We will stay dry until Thursday night when the next winter storm is expected to be coming in; so the roads will not be too bad for a few days as far as icy spots and slick bridges.

THIS WEEK:
Wednesday temperatures remained cold and again only reached the mid 30s. We did see mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and the winds were light out of the north. The wind chill again made it feel in the 20s most of the day and Wednesday night lows is where we bottomed out for the current cold spell. Temperatures fell into the mid to upper teens Wednesday night with the wind chill hanging around 10° for Thursday morning.

The next system will be getting closer on Thursday and clouds will move in Thursday night. Snow is expected to move in sometime Thursday night with the snow coming up from the southwest. There is a shot for a wintry mix, ice or freezing rain from the system south of Madison county, but it looks to bring snow to most of us. The most likely place to see the freezing rain and ice would be near the Mississippi border but that is where the snow will be the heaviest and wettest as well when it comes down. Highs on Thursday reached the mid 30s but fall below freezing Thursday night into the upper 20s before the snow shows up.

Snow is looking likely on Friday and accumulations look highly likely as of now. Latest forecast model trends have shown totals as high as 6-8″ with some as low as 3-4″.  The snow should wrap up by Friday evening but it will be sticking around on the ground through the weekend into next week. As of now, all schools are closed in West Tennessee and many businesses’ are as well. This forecast could change a little as the system gets closer, but we are not expecting the forecast to change much at all. Stay with WBBJ throughout the event for more information. Please do not travel unless it is an emergency of you are an essential working on Friday or Saturday. Roads will be snow packed and slick. Travel could be extremely difficult to near impossible in some of the more rural areas.

THE WEEKEND:

The snow coming in on Friday is forecast to move out by the time the sun comes up on Saturday. But it will be too cold Saturday to melt any of the snow that we will be receiving on Friday. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 30s but we should warm to the upper 30s to near 40° on Sunday that could lead to some of the snow telling to begin to melt. Both weekend nights we are expecting the overnight temperatures to again fall into the low to mid 20s. The clouds will likely hang around most of the day on Saturday before clearing out Saturday night into the day on Sunday. The winds will come out of the west on Saturday as the system moves out and try to turn to the southwest on Sunday before the next front comes in early next week! Highs next week will only reach the upper 30s with morning lows hanging around the upper teens to the mid 20s. Stay warm folks!
