Groundbreaking Surgery to be Performed in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – A Jackson cardiac team is bringing a new procedure to Jackson that will help heal the hearts of West Tennesseans. The board certified cardiac team of the Heart and Vascular Center of West Tennessee are performing a procedure to close holes in the hearts that manifest at birth. Until now patients had to travel to Memphis or Nashville for the procedure. Sealing the hole is done with procedure known as a “PFO closure” using a catheter. “Our goal is to bring the highest technology to West Tennessee patients. We don’t think anyone should go out of town for a procedure that can be done in town,” said Dr. Elie Korban of Heart and Vascular Center of West Tennessee. The group will perform the procedure at Regional Hospital of Jackson.
