Three Teens, One Adult Charged after Mailbox Thefts

WEAKLEY CO. Tenn.- Three teens in Weakley County are in trouble after deputies said they drank beer, and then stole more than 20 mailboxes in the county. Deputies charged Bridgette Covington with three counts of contributing to a minor. Investigators said she confessed to providing them beer before the crime spree. “If they would have hit a family coming home from a game, or ran into a tree themselves, it could have been a lot different for the kids,” Investigator Eric Smith said. All three boys are charged with vandalism. Residents told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they are thankful the teens will have to pay to repair and replace the boxes. “Them having to pay out of pocket to repay me and everyone else should be a life lesson for them,” said Tommy Mount, who had his mailbox taken. Although some of the boxes had mail in them, deputies said they will not face more serious federal charges.
