Grade School Students Honored During Constitution Week

JACKSON, Tenn. – This week, America is celebrating the 226th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States. A group of students winners were honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for their entries in an essay writing contest, Thursday. Awards were presented for the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for Constitution Week. The contest had students from 11 local schools in the “The Bill of Rights” essay contest and “The Liberty Bell” coloring contest. Organizers of the contest say they hope these contests will teach the students the importance of the Constitution. “We hope the children take away the importance of our U.S. Constitution to our country as a whole and the value to our nation and to all the countries of the world,” Jackie Utley, Jackson-Madison County DAR representative said. 16 students in total were recognized for their efforts.
