Dangerous Heat All Week

Dangerous heat will be impacting our region all week long. We’ve already had a couple Extreme Heat Warnings issued, and it’s possible we see more with little to no help from rain this time. We have the details coming up right here.

Sun Heat

Monday:

An Extreme Heat Warning has been preemptively issued for most of West Tennessee from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We are expecting Heat Index values up to 111 degrees for Monday Afternoon. Monday is the only day this week we have a solid chance at any relief brought in by rain. The actual air temperature will be around 95-96 degrees with humidity around 70%. This is more than enough to cause heat illness in a short timeframe.

Sun Heat

Tuesday:

The temperatures will be higher, but because the ridge will be centering itself on West Tennessee mid-week, the heat index is not forecast to change much. With that being said, it’s still very possible that we see Heat Index values above 110 for a majority of the week. Tuesday’s current forecast high temperature is 98 degrees.

Wednesday:

Wednesday will mostly be a wash, rinse, repeat of Tuesday. A Heat Advisory is almost guaranteed, but I would be surprised if it isn’t upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning by Tuesday. Like Tuesday, the current forecast high is 98 degrees.

Thursday:

Likely the hottest day of the week will be Thursday. Triple-digit air temperatures are not out of the question as the ridge peaks in intensity and parks on top of West Tennessee. A small chance for showers and storms returns to the forecast, so there is at least a chance that we get some cooling before peak heating on Thursday. As of now, the forecast high is 99 degrees, but I would not be surprised if some towns in the area break 100.

Final Thoughts:

It’s an easy forecast, but don’t let that fool you. Weeks like this are usually when we see the most reports of heat-related illness and injury. Many school band programs across West Tennessee are entering the final week of band camp. Make sure water, shade, and breaks are plentiful this week.
