Mild Heat Sticking Around, Rain Chances Mid-Week

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

We have a textbook week of August on tap for us here in West Tennessee. Temperatures will be in the 90s all week long, but we have a chance for a cold front and some showers a couple days this week. We’ll break it down right here.

Monday:

It’s going to be hot and sunny across West Tennessee on Monday. There isn’t a significant chance of rain, but don’t count out a brief pop-up in some locations. Heat index values will be right around 100 degrees, but no real concern for a Heat Advisory for much of the week. The overnight low will be around the low-70s.

Tuesday:

The chances for rain Tuesday have dropped slightly, but it is still high enough that it’s likely going to impact you at some point. Some of these showers could get strong enough to have some embedded thunder. Timing is most likely after 1 PM, so consider sending the kids to school with rain gear in case they need to stay dry for the trip home.

Wednesday:

Wednesday will have our best chance for rain region-wide. We have been placed under a Marginal Risk for Excessive Rainfall (not severe weather). All this means is that the chances of Flash Flooding will be slightly elevated on Wednesday Afternoon.

Thursday:

Chances of rain stick around in the afternoon but temperatures will remain seasonally average in the low 90s. Shower and storm activity is likely to be more scattered on Thursday. Winds will likely be calm which will make rainfall heavier locally. Extremely low shear in place will not allow for rain to be moved farther down wind, so when it falls, it will be falling all at once in one spot.

Into The Weekend:

CPC outlooks say much of the Southeastern United States has a very high chance of above average temperatures moving in around the 16th through the 20th. It’s not much of a guarantee, but it’s still a good idea to begin preparing for another round of intense heat this weekend. Start getting the water in your system now. It’ll make it a lot easier should temperatures move into a dangerous range next week.
