National Eating Healthy Day

SOUTH JACKSON — The American Heart Association celebrated National Eating Healthy Day Wednesday. The AMA says the best way to jump on a healthy habit is to take it one day at a time. Try eating more fruits and vegetables and lower your sodium intake. It’s easier on your body and your wallet if you cook at home more often. Finally, you are a smarter shopper when you plan your list before you make a trip to the store. Christy Futrell, the director of the American Heart Association Heart Walk says, “Ask yourself, ‘what can I do today to make a healthy choice in what I eat?’ and not just today, but take a step for the future and integrate some great things into their diet that could possibly save their life.” According to the American Heart Association, 600,000 Americans die each year from heart disease, making it the leading cause of death for both men and women.
