Former Teacher’s Assistant Sentenced for Child Slapping

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A former education assistant charged with hitting an autistic elementary student in the Jackson-Madison County School system entered a plea Thursday.. Alvin Wilson, 53, of Humboldt, pleaded guilty in city court on charges that he hit an autistic child on Sept. 26. Wilson worked at Isaac Lane Elementary School until a joint investigation by police and D.C.S. determined that during discipline Wilson slapped an 8-year-old special needs boy in the face. Judge Blake Anderson ordered Wilson to do 100 hours of community service, attend anger management classes and ruled he cannot work in the Jackson-Madison County School System. Wilson was also sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation. The child’s parents agreed with Wilson’s sentence.
