JACKSON, Tenn. — With the sixth confirmed shooting in the Hub City this week, WBBJ spoke with residents who say even though there’s more patrols in the community, it’s too late. “I’m afraid to even walk out my door, I’m constantly looking over my shoulder and shouldn’t have to feel like that,” Shauna Taylor said. Taylor went to the Criminal Justice Complex this afternoon. It was then she noticed the ambulance and a child on a stretcher. Something she says is a clear sign that violence in Jackson is out of control. “It’s sad and it’s hurtful at the same time cause I look at is as, it could’ve been one of my boys,” Taylor said. Residents say what’s scary is that the gunman opened fire on the family in what’s believed to be one of the safest places in the city, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department parking lot. In response to the recent shootings, investigators say they’ve put 24-hour patrols in the city’s high crime areas. “They should’ve started a long time ago,” Montgomery said. “They knew where the problem is happening at, then start there.” With the shootings happening in broad daylight, near law enforcement offices, residents say its clear that criminals are acting as if they have no limits “People ain’t worried about it, you know? And its like they’d almost do it right there in front of a cop if he wasn’t already dressed out,” Montgomery said. “I see more of police sitting in the back parking lots, sitting on the side of the street,” Taylor said. “Patrol…look.”
