Hub City Central football stadium officially opens

JACKSON, Tenn. — The end of a long journey — the Hub City Central football stadium is officially complete.

Hub City Central football field is officially open and ready for the season.

A ribbon cutting marked this special occasion.

“It’s surreal, I mean like when you’re seeing things on paper and the design, you know, some people can’t kind of put those two things together, but I mean to see all of the pictures, you know, look at the dirtwork,” said Tina Mercer, event organizer.

Late 2024, the Jackson-Madison County School Board approved a maximum fund of $14.6 million for this project.

Superintendent Dr. Marlon King announced Thursday morning that the field is fully paid for, without raising taxes or borrowing funds. There is also $1 million saved in an incubator to support the maintenance of the complex.

“It is just gorgeous. We are so proud,” Mercer said. “It is the best thing ever for this area, this district and for the community.”

The complex seats over 2,400 fans, includes a press box, and a fully functional concession stand.

“And we have a regulation track here, which Jackson-Madison County School Systems never had a regulation track, so now we’ll have a home track, and it’s actually a steeple-chase track, so it’s one of a kind in this area,” said Melissa Spurgeon, Chief of Staff for JMCSS.

The field serves as the home field for Jackson Central Merry High School, but is open to all Hub City teams to utilize.

“We are excited about the progress that we’re able to put this in this community, in the Midtown community, and that it’s going to serve not only JCM High School, but all of our school systems,” Spurgeon said.

The track is also open to the community for exercise.

“It has been talked about for about 30 years, but in terms of execution, it’s been in the play since–for about two and a half,” Mercer said.

A community open house was held at the field Thursday evening.
