BBB: Beware of Medicare and ACA scams

October means cooler days, warmer drinks, and the start of Medicare open enrollment.

For Medicare beneficiaries, that runs October 15 through December 7.

The affordable care act marketplace open enrollment follows right behind, running november 1st through January 15. In fact, you are probably seeing ads or getting alerts about both. You might hear from scammers, too.

“We always tell our consumers to not engage, cause the more you engage, the more likely they’re going to keep contacting you or keep trying to contact you,” said Toddnetta Trice, communications specialist with the Better Business Bureau.

You should also protect your government-issued numbers. Never offer your Medicare id number, social security number, health plan info, or banking information to anyone you don’t know.
