JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are investigating after several gunshots were heard by officers and residents living off of Wallace Road and Fairmeadow Cove in North Jackson. Investigators said an officer patrolling the area heard the gunfire somewhere around Wallace Road and Fairmeadow Cove just before 10 p.m. Friday. Police said they searched the area but found no evidence of a shooting. “An officer working another detail actually heard the gunshots and once the officers were in the area there were some people who did say they had seen subjects running from the area,” said Lt. Mike Landreth of the Jackson Police Dept. Officials said the shooting investigation came to a dead end because of the lack of information given by those who live in the area. Residents there told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that gunshots are often heard in this neighborhood. Some residents who didn’t want to be identified said eyewitnesses stay silent out of fear for retaliation. Police said they depend on witness testimony to gather evidence and solve cases. “Often people have information they’re a little reluctant to give it up from time to time just maybe out of fear,” said Lt. Landreth. “If officers arrive on the scene and we don’t have any type of crime scene, if we can’t find shell casings or we don’t find a victim…or we don’t find items with bullet holes in them then sometimes we don’t have anything to go on without the cooperation of witnesses that could give us some leads on what has happened.” Police also responded to a shots fired call around 7 p.m. near the Landmark Loop area in North Jackson, Sunday. Again, police said no evidence was found at the scene, no one was reportedly injured. Police said when a shots fired call comes in, usually officers are only given a general area to search for eyewitnesses, leads and suspects. Investigators said without the cooperation of the community, some cases are nearly impossible to solve. Residents living in the area told us seeing the the number of crimes involving gun violence increase is frustrating. “For a city this small I think it’s kind of ridiculous for all the shooting and killing going on around here,” said resident Bill Curry. “It’s not worth it, it’s stupid. I mean, you’re hurting yourself and people that somebody else loves and we are all in it as a whole. I mean, when you start messing up the neighborhood, you’re really messing up the city because that’s with the city is… just a bunch of neighborhoods that are connected.” If you have any information in any of the cases involving gun violence across the city, call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers where all tips are anonymous (731) 424-TIPS (8477). In some cases, cash rewards are offered for information leading to an arrest.
