Dyersburg police warn Hyundai owners of recent thefts

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – The Dyersburg Police Department is warning Hyundai owners of some recent thefts that have occurred and believe to be part of a nationwide Hyundai security campaign.

According to a post by the Dyersburg PD on Facebook, authorities are warning Hyundai owners to take extra precautions.

Over the past week, the Dyersburg Police Department has investigated two Hyundai vehicle thefts and one attempted vehicle theft involving a non-Hyundai vehicle. These incidents appear to be related. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are breaking door handles with a screwdriver to gain entry, then stealing the vehicles.
The Hyundai vehicle stolen on January 18, 2026, was later observed by Flock Safety cameras in Millington, Tennessee. While it is suspected that stolen vehicles may be taken toward the Memphis area, this information cannot be verified at this time.
The Dyersburg Police Department is aware of a national Hyundai security campaign regarding certain 2011–2022 Hyundai models manufactured without engine immobilizers, a standard anti-theft feature. These vehicles have been targeted nationwide following a widely circulated social media method that allows them to be stolen with basic tools, including a screwdriver.
Owners of Hyundai vehicles from model years 2011–2022 are strongly encouraged to check their vehicle’s eligibility and take advantage of available security upgrades.
Residents are urged to:
• Lock vehicles and remove valuables,
• Park in well-lit areas when possible, and
• Report any suspicious activity immediately.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the Dyersburg Police Department.
