Jackson to activate warming shelters amid winter storm

JACKSON, Tenn. — While most residents are stocking up on essentials and preparing to shelter in place, others are worried about how they will survive this winter storm.

Well, you don’t have to worry for too long — an emergency shelter plan for the Hub City has been activated.

Starting this Friday night and continuing through next Tuesday night, men, women, and children seeking aid will be provided warmth and food.

Men seeking shelter from the storm are encouraged to meet Friday at 4 p.m. at the T. R. White Sports complex, located at 304 North Hays Avenue.

Women seeking shelter should meet at the First United Methodist Church mission center, located at 200 South Church Street at 4 p.m. as well.

We spoke with Madison County Emergency Management Director Jason Moore.

“Try to not use dangerous types of fire sources,” Moore said. “We don’t want the fire department out working when they don’t have to.”
