JMCSS Board of Education meets to approve Superintendent contract extension

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local school Superintendent isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.  The Jackson-Madison County School System Board of Education held a combined meeting to discuss an extension and renewal of Superintendent Dr. Marlon King’s contract.  The vote was passed 6 to 3.  The new contract is more expensive than the previous contract, however, they believe it is in their best interest to continue with Dr. King as he has brought positive growth.

“Dr. King has turned this district around. And you have to go back and look, back in 2022 where we were then and where we are today. In 2022 we were 137 out of 143 districts. We had 6 districts worse than we are. Today we are 130 out of 148. Now we have 18 districts worse than we are.  Is that where we want to be, no, but we are going in the right direction,” said Harvey Walden, Chair to the Jackson-Madison County School Board.

The new contract will go into effect January 23rd.
