Local sorority chapter presents its annual Youth Symposium

JACKSON, Tenn.–One event returns to the Hub City to help local youth flourish and grow.

The Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. presented its annual Youth Symposium Saturday.

The event unites area youth with sorority members and many others from the community helping to teach and enrich young lives.

This year’s theme was Planting Seeds of Greatness & Whole Wellness. The event was conducted in a smaller setting this year, being held at the Carnegie Center in Jackson.

There were multiple organizations represented at the symposium, including the Jackson Safety Coalition, Jackson Fire Department, NAACP and several others.

Those who attended learned ways to tackle mental health problems, CPR skills, enjoyed a lesson in history and could even participate in art projects.

“Usually we have a big event, but however, this year we wanted to kind of scale it back. To get a little bit more close with our youth, our parents, and community partners,” said LeFreida Gatlin, ROAR Club Advisor at Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. hosts the Youth Symposiums across the nation every year on the second Saturday in March.
