Judge revokes bonds for 2 defendants charged with new crimes while on release
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. – On April 21, 2026, in the Circuit Court of Haywood County, Judge Clayburn Peeples revoked the bonds of Defendants Jeremy Tyus and Shelton Rice. Under T.C.A. § 40-11-141, if after a defendant is released on any bond approved by the court, he is charged with an offense committed during his release, then the court may revoke and terminate the defendant’s bond and order the defendant held without bail pending trial or sentencing. Our Office filed Motions to Revoke these defendants’ bonds based on new arrests for offenses committed during their release.
Jeremy Tyus was indicted for Rape, Assault on an Officer, and Retaliation for Past Action, which is set for trial on October 12. While released on bond, Tyus was arrested for Aggravated Assault.

Shelton Rice was convicted of Domestic Assault after a jury trial and remained out on bond pending his sentencing hearing. During his release, Rice was arrested for Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Both Tyus and Rice were taken into custody after Tuesday’s bond revocation hearings. They will be held without bond until their cases are resolved.
“Unless it’s a capital case, Defendants have a Constitutional right to a bond, and it is within the discretion of the Court to allow a Defendant to remain out on bond after conviction until the sentencing hearing. However, if a defendant violates a bond condition by committing a new offense, our Office will strenuously petition the Court to revoke their bond to protect the communities of Crockett, Gibson, and Haywood Counties.”
-Frederick H. Agee, District Attorney General
