This bill authorizes the estate of an electrical lineman who installs, maintains, or repairs electrical transmission and power distribution systems and is employed by a local government or an entity that contracts with a local government for the installation, maintenance, and repair of such systems, who is killed in the line of duty, to receive an annuity in the amount of $250,000, paid over five years in $50,000 installments.
Bill 1464 is named after Chance Carlton, a Carroll County native who died in the line of duty. He was a lineman with the Carrol County Electric Department and lost his life in a wreck during overnight storms.
State Representative Brock Martin was in attendance for the passing of the bill.
“It was a phenomenal day. Great day to celebrate and remember him and make sure that our first responders are taken care of and the lineman are part of that forever,” said Martin.
