Madison County Prepares For Winter Blast

WEST MADISON COUNTY — Emergency managers across West Tennessee are already making preparations for the worst, Wednesday. The Jackson-Madison county Emergency Management Agency got equipment like chainsaws out to make sure they’re working properly. Though our area has already seen freezing temperatures, there hasn’t been this kind of winter blast in a while, which is why emergency officials are urging residents to prepare now about how to keep warm if they lose power at home. Marty Clements, the director of Jackson-Madison County EMA, is reminding residents of what not to do in case of loss of power. “You know you don’t need to be bringing a generator inside or put it in the carport or in the garage because of the fumes coming in,” Clements said. “You don’t want to use charcoal inside the house.” Clements says his office will be staffed around the clock should this winter blast hit. They’ll be available to respond to emergencies and pass along any necessary information. Clements also wants to remind pet owners to keep a special eye on outside animals. He says he urges people to keep them inside and keep an eye on their food and water supply, as it may freeze with the arctic temperatures.
