Pets and Cold

JACKSON, Tenn.-Those with pets usually kept outdoor are being urged by animal experts to bring them inside, if at all possible. Just like people, pets’ cold tolerance can vary. Even though they have fur, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia. Make sure to check their paws frequently for signs of injury, such as cracks or bleeding. If you must keep your animal outside, veterinarians recommend you make sure they have plenty of food, that their water does not freeze over and they have shelter. Vets also suggest you not walk dogs when there is ice because like us they can slip and fall. Plus, make sure to wipe them off well after they come in. Their fur can easily pick up salt and chemicals placed on roadways.
