Two Trenton Workers Accused of Having Sex at Work

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. – A Trenton police officer and police dispatcher have resigned, after being accused of having sex at work. “Our people on duty ought to be giving 100 percent of their attention to what they’re supposed to be doing,” Trenton Mayor Tony Burriss said. A co-worker reported a dispatcher and city police officer were performing sex acts in the dispatch room. “Certainly the seriousness when a dispatcher’s duties responsibilities are as well as an officer, it’s really disappointing,” Trenton Police Chief Will Sanders said. Sanders said he immediately suspended Christy Burns and Kyle Beauchamp, pending an investigation. “I’m disappointed in the fact, you have an amount of respect for your employees. You feel like they’re dong their job,” Sanders said. On December 2, they were given the choice to resign or be terminated. Though they both deny sex acts, they both chose to resign. “Whatever it was, it happened in the room where the dispatcher works. So there were no missed calls, nobody went unattended because of the behavior,” Mayor Burriss said. The city leaders said they are disappointed, but are sure they will not let this happen again. “Our employees are very professional and do a great job. Every once in a while people make mistakes,” Mayor Buriss said. Both Mayor Burriss and Chief Sanders say they are still not sure what happened in that dispatch room and choose only to call it “inappropriate behavior.” Chief Sanders also said it only took them two days to wrap up the investigation.
