Tornado Drills Across Tennessee A Booming Success

NORTH MADISON COUNTY — Students, faculty and staff at Thelma Barker Elementary School participated in the tornado safety drill that occurred statewide in Tennessee, Wednesday. Students went to safe areas in the school and took the “duck and cover” positions to practice in case severe weather hits at while school is in session. Emergency management officials say it is important to be prepared and know what to do when severe weather comes your way. “We never can tell, know whether it’s gonna be the real thing or not,” William Arnold said, Assistant Principal of Thelma Barker Elementary. “So we take our drills very seriously” Emergency officials say all of storm sirens placed around the county worked during the drill. They also recommend a weather radio, and watch and listen to TV and radio stations during stormy weather.
