JACKSON, Tenn.- Should fathers take time off after they have a child? It is what known as Paternity Leave. Researchers said there is a constant debate over how much, if any, time is an acceptable leave for new dads. Experts said it is symbolic of the struggle to define what makes a good man and a good dad. Figures showed only 14 percent of U.S employers offering paid paternity leave. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke with a local family law attorney about this debate. “The way that the law works is it you take that leave it’s not supposed to affect your employment in any matter whatsoever so you should not have a fear doing so,” said Rob Binkley, an employment law attorney. 60 percent of dads, who had at least one child under the age of 18, said paternity leave is important when looking for a new employer.
