NORTH JACKSON — The creators of one of the Hub City’s newest ice stands are giving away part of their profit. The teens behind Surf’s Up sold shaved ice all day on Saturday. Half of the proceeds go to the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center, for prevention of child abuse. The two cousins, 15-year-old Grace Bates, and 13-year-old Madeline Miles, started selling lemonade four years ago and came up with the idea to sell snow cones. Saturday they say they’ve seen an increase in customers. “Usually it doesn’t start picking up till about 2 and this morning right when we opened it was crowded, yea this weeks been really crowded we’ve like doubled our sales this week,” Bates said. “I think just the hotter weather coming in that helps a lot.” The teens sold the snow cones until 9:00 PM on North Highland Avenue.
