Distinguished Lane College graduate passes away

EAST JACKSON — Dr. Anna L. Cooke, 91, one of Lane College‘s most distinguished and remembered graduates, passed away last Saturday, according to a spokesperson at Lane College. During her lifetime, Dr. Cooke made substantial and significant contributions to Lane College and to the entire Jackson, Tennessee community. A graduate of Merry High School, she received her B.A. Degree from Lane College in 1944 and her master‘s degree in Library Science from Atlanta University in 1955. In 1993, she was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lane College. Dr. Cooke was preceded in death by her husband, Professor James A. Cooke, past Athletic Director at Lane College. She is survived by their adult daughter, Elsie Cooke Holmes. By order of Interim President Glenn Vaulx, the Lane College flag has been lowered to half-staff in memory of Dr. Cooke. Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.
