Funeral arrangements made for distinguished Lane College graduate

EAST JACKSON — Funeral services for a distinguished Lane College graduate have been finalized. The family of Dr. Anna L. Cooke will receive visitors on Saturday, July 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Paul CME Church, located at 282 Middleton Street in Jackson. The Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta will perform its Omega Omega Services on Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul, followed by the Homegoing Services at the church that will begin at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Cooke will lie in state at the Church beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Stephenson-Shaw Funeral Home of Jackson has charge. Cooke passed away last Saturday, according to a spokesperson at Lane College. During her lifetime, Dr. Cooke made substantial and significant contributions to Lane College and to the entire Jackson, Tennessee community. A graduate of Merry High School, she received her B.A. Degree from Lane College in 1944 and her master‘s degree in Library Science from Atlanta University in 1955. In 1993, she was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lane College.
