2 killed, 1 hurt in Alcorn County wreck

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – Winter weather and icy roads are being blamed for a multiple wreck that left two people dead and a child injured.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Ray Hall, two cars hit a patch of ice on U.S. Highway 72 around 1:30 p.m. Friday and had a minor fender bender before sliding off the side of the road.

Hall says the cars’ occupants got out to assess the damage when a tractor-trailer hit the same ice, jack-knifed and hit two adults and a child.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1zUk5G5 ) one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second adult died after being transported to Magnolia Regional Medical Center. The child is listed in stable condition.
