Travelers hurry to their holiday destinations

JACKSON, Tenn. —Travelers hurry to make it home for the holidays.

It’s the holidays and a lot of drivers are on the way to their hometowns.

That’s right, a lot of drivers are on the road and in a hurry to see their family and to enjoy a home cooked meal.

Travelers from all over the United States came through Tennessee on their way to their destinations.

“Just headed over to Memphis from Murfreesboro,” said traveler Clark Burton.

“We’re traveling to Memphis,” said traveler Cherokee Humphrey.

“I’m leaving the Nashville area heading to Covington down the road,” said traveler Eric Mosley.

“We are heading towards, you know, Irving, Texas,” said holiday travelers, Thirukonda family.

When asked what are you guys planning for the holiday? Everyone said family, food, and relaxation.

“No big plans man, have dinner, chill out, do some stuff, have some red wine, hang,” Burton said.

“Spend time with family, eat real good, sleep and enjoy the holiday. We’re having seafood lasagna. We’re having a seafood Christmas,” Humphrey said.

“I’ll just have a meal and open some presents, just a regular little routine,” Mosley said.

“We’re not sure, it’s a surprise. I guess, yeah, yeah, we’ll find out,” Thirukonda family said.

All the holiday travelers said, they were excited to finally spend time with their loved ones, due to not being able to travel last year because of the pandemic.

“Well last year I cried all Christmas, because I didn’t get to be at home with my family. And then, also you know, last year we were coming from Nashville, there was a bombing that happened in Nashville. So we didn’t get to do much last year for Christmas,” Humphrey said.

“We were kind of camped there for safety, but we kind of branched out this year. We did not see this family for the last three years, cause they were pretty far out. So we just wanted to meet them this year,” Thirukonda family said.

Other drivers say that they did travel last year, but this year seems to be a smoother ride.

“There’s not a lot of semi trucks on the road except, once I got past Jackson, that’s where I saw a lot of semi trucks. There’s a lot of flyers out here. I slowed down to 77 mph instead of my normal 83 mph, this weekend because it is a holiday but it’s still good riding,” Burton said.

“Well I didn’t travel on Christmas, but I’m finding the traffic is much better today. May be different this afternoon but it’s good right now,” Mosley said.

If your traveling out there today, have a safe and happy holiday.
