TBI warns of dangerous pills that resemble oxycodone
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued a warning about illicit pills that appear to be oxycodone but instead are a drug 50 times more potent than heroin.
The TBI said Thursday that a law enforcement agency recovered what looked like oxycodone pills during a traffic stop.
However, laboratory analysis indicated the pills were counterfeit and did not contain oxycodone. Instead, TBI said they contained fentanyl, a painkiller 50 times as potent as heroin that can be deadly in high doses.
The TBI advises consumers that they should only use prescription medications obtained through a licensed pharmacy and avoid purchasing prescription medications online or from illegal sources.
