CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Jerusalem Road in Bells has been closed for two days due to damage caused by the rain. Almost three inches of rain swept away the road and the drain pipe over the holiday weekend. Michael Lawson from the County Highway Department says the road is frequently used and that when the road is closed, it causes problems for drivers. “It’s several [drivers] at times like going to school and getting off work,” Lawson said. “At times it ain’t too bad, and at times it’s busy.” The road is known for being a trouble spot. “When it rains and you get a big heavy rain, it takes a while for the water to go down, and it’ll get over the road,” Lawson said. “Just trying to close the roads until the water goes down and then come back and fix what it tears up.” The county says they are paying for the road repairs but did not tell us an exact figure.
