JACKSON, Tenn. — Many of you have seen them waving at you off of the Highway 45 Bypass. More than 1,000 red, white, and blue flags are displayed in remembrance of three special groups in our community. The American flags represent our military, first responders and children who have died due to abuse and neglect. The Jackson Exchange Club and the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse have been raising money to help prevent abuse and neglect. “I think it is a reminder of what this country is about and that there is a cause out there, there is a need to raise money to help,” Flags of Freedom event chairwoman Kara Nicodemus said. Twenty-three flags represent the children in Tennessee who have died due to abuse or neglect over the past year, and one flag is dedicated to Firefighter Chris Blankenship who died in the line of duty this March. The Jackson Exchange Club has raised $23,000 so far and is still accepting donations. To help, you can donate directly to the Jackson Exchange Club or Carl Perkins Center.
