JACKSON, Tenn. — U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander was in Jackson Friday speaking with educators and parents about fixing No Child Left Behind. Jackson State Community College hosted the round-table discussion that included education leaders from across West Tennessee. During the discussion, Alexander mentioned his commitment to fix No Child Left Behind and to make it easier for graduating seniors to apply for Tennessee Promise. “This is discouraging students from taking advantage of Tennessee Promise,” Alexander said. “The president of the community college in Memphis told me that he thinks he loses 1,500 students a year because of the complexity of this form.” Alexander says he has put forth legislation that will eliminate the FAFSA form for Tennessee Promise, replacing it with an application that only consists of two questions.
